This year World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March. World Book Day is a great opportunity to celebrate all things books and reading with children. If your charges attend school, preschool or nursery it is likely they will be celebrating. In many cases children will have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book characters. Use your imagination and get creative with them. Start discussing now with your charges about their favourite books. Some of you may look after children who don’t attend settings.
You can use World Book Day as a great excuse to gather your Nanny network together along with your charges to have a fun day celebrating World Book Day. You can get creative with activities based around children’s books. Build a make shift stage for your charges to act out scenes from their favourite book. Get outside and use the natural world to create an activity based around a particular favourite book. There are endless ideas out there.
BAPN recently reviewed 'There’s More to Books' than Reading by Kathryn Lord and her website https://moretobooks.blog
has some great inspiration of how to expand on children’s books and create activities based around particular books.
Have a look too at https://www.worldbookday.com for further ideas. They have a great section headlined Inspiration which includes homemade dressing up ideas, the top 100 books to share with children and many more inspiring ideas. In their Resources section there is hundreds of downloadable activity sheets that you can print off for your charges. Most importantly have fun and enjoy reading books with your charges!
